LEARN Podcast

School-Community Gardens are growing in Community Learning Centres across the province.  The gardens are fertile ground for school-community partnerships and represent a strategy that touches upon hands-on learning, family-community engagement and healthy food and healthy lifestyles.

A school-community garden is not always an easy endeavor - but if things go well, you can literally enjoy the fruits of your labor.

School-Community Garden Institute

LEARN and McGill’s Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE) hosted the Harvest Institute for  teachers, partners and Community Development Agents (CDAs).  

The Harvest Festival was an opportunity to reflect on what was learned during the 2019 garden season and provide structured time to plan for spring 2020.  

The Institute included

  • Poster session - sharing lessons from the garden

  • Connecting the garden to the curriculum 

  • Writing grants and planning for the spring

  • Developing a garden community

  • Seed exchange
